In September 2024, Airpelago completed a demonstration project for Arva AS, one of Norway’s largest DSOs. The project showcased the use of drones for LiDAR mapping, detailed inspections, and overview inspections of Arva’s power infrastructure.
“Using Airpelago’s drone inspection solution is a greener approach to inspections, in line with our sustainability-focused goals. We were pleased with the results of this project and are convinced there is a lot of untapped potential in using drones for future inspections.” - Ragnar Johnsen - Responsible for maintenance of network facilities
By utilizing drone technology, we provided Arva with efficient and accurate inspections in hard-to-reach areas, for them to benchmark with inspection approaches. Airpelago conducted both overview and detailed inspections of power lines and generated digital images and LiDAR data. This data supports preventive and reactive maintenance efforts, ensuring reliable grid up-time and enhancing overall system resilience.
“We are thrilled to have run this project with Arva AS and to see another Norwegian company trusting us as a service provider. This is an important market for us and this project with one of the country’s key players, Arva AS, is a testament to the impact and potential of autonomous drone inspections” - Max Hjalmarsson, CEO of Airpelago
Arva also gained access to Airpelago’s software, allowing them to track project progress, see the location of drone pilots, and in close to real-time assess all the collected data.
Airpelago looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Arva AS and other utility companies to deliver innovative inspection solutions.
